Sisterhood

Whether it's spending a weekend with another school's chapter or staying in the house to watch America's Next Top Model, Gamma Phis enjoy their time together.

There is nothing more important to Gamma Phis than each other. From the New Member period to Senior Celebration, Gamma Phi excels at programming events just for its members. Just a few (there are so many more!) of Gamma Phi’s favorite sisterhood events are:

WALKOUT
Each fall, we take a road trip to another Big Ten school to go to a Northwestern football game. The past three years, we have gone to Wisconsin - Madison, Purdue and Michigan State. We sleepover with the Gamma Phi chapter there and they show us what it’s like to go to a state school! Spending some quality time away from Evanston and with our amazing sisters from other schools is so much more important than the score the Wildcats post while we’re there. But maybe that’s because we’re 0-3. This winter, we will be having our first ever Basketball Walkout!

TV/SCHOLARSHIP NIGHTS
Why be in a sorority if you can’t watch Grey's Anatomy with your sisters? Gamma Phi’s Loyalty Circles and Scholarships Chairs host weekly Grey's Anatomy Parties complete with yummy munchies, cozy couches, and a roomful of obsessed sisters. No one pretends to read during the TV because afterwards there are quiet hours (with Starbucks coffee and a bunch of Gamma Phi’s, it’s pretty hard to stop the gabbing and giggling) in the dining room for studying. One of everyone’s favorite and saddest TV/Scholarship nights was the series finales of Friends. Mourned with ice cream sundaes and hot cocoa, dozens of Gamma Phi’s huddled in the TV room to say goodbye to their fake Friends in the company of their real friends.

RETREATS
For sisterhood retreats, Gamma Phi’s spend the evening with the chapter doing any number of things. Past retreats have been dinners out to Walker Brothers and Ed Debevic’s and dinner in with Joy Yee’s. Before a formal, we sponsored was a Girls Night In where we watched Love, Actually and got manicures at the Omni Spa. Held spring quarter as part of Senior Celebration, Pearls of Wisdom is the seniors’ night to impart their collective insight to the rest of the house. As they read the notes they wrote to themselves as freshmen, many cried as they told their sisters to “love this house,” to not be afraid of the future just yet, to make sure that you have done enough with your four years here to have something to say for your Pearls. They cried, we laughed with – and at – them when they told stories. We ended by scrapbooking the year.
